Heated or unheated sapphire: what is the difference?

An unheated sapphire remains exactly as nature created it: its color has undergone no treatment, which makes it rarer and more sought after by collectors. A heated sapphire has benefited from a traditional thermal treatment that reveals and intensifies its natural color — an ancestral practice, fully accepted in gemmology, that makes superb stones more affordable.
