Natural pink spinel from Tajikistan of 0.91 carats, emerald cut. In the Pamir mountains, Tajikistan is home to the historic Kuh-i-Lal deposits, worked intermittently for more than a thousand years. Many of the great spinels in historic crown jewels come from there; they were long mistaken for rubies and called “balas rubies”.

Its pink colour is entirely natural: the stone has undergone no treatment.
